Navarino Launches new ‘Connecting Greece with the Future’ Initiative, bringing high speed Starlink connectivity to remote districts of Greece.
Following on from the company’s Tree Hub project that sees Navarino plant 50 trees for every Starlink unit activated, a new CSR Initiative using Starlink’s cutting edge technology is now underway. The ‘Connecting Greece with the Future’ project is being run in partnership with Akis Temperidis – who after globetrotting the world for his Navarino-sponsored World Offroad environmental expedition, has now been appointed as Navarino’s Green Ambassador.
Under the initiative, Akis will be travelling all over Greece in our specially modified Land Rover, visiting remote villages and communities around the country’s mainland and islands to install Starlink antennas, with the aim of significantly upgrading their connectivity to the LEO networks’ ultra-fast, low latency broadband.
Working in coordination with local authorities and mayors, the scheme will also be carrying out environmental, educational and sustainability activities in each community that Akis visits.
The first trip has already taken place in the Municipality of Xiromero, home of the largest Oak forest in Greece. A Starlink antenna was installed in the local square, ensuring not only fast connectivity for residents, but also enabling some critical new services to be offered, such as the issuance of electronic prescriptions by local medical professionals.
In addition, with the help of Xiromero’s Mayor and local school children, Akis facilitated a mini seminar on Greek local flora, as well as a clean-up of the impressive Oak forest, which saw the group clearing away years of refuse and plastic waste from the stunningly beautiful region, setting an example to follow in the future.
‘Connecting Greece with the Future’ will be visiting a further ten or so regions across the country, and each visit will see us publishing a video of how Akis is helping to make a difference in local Greek communities while also highlighting local environmental issues.
