As part of our ongoing commitment to keep our partners informed, we would like to share the latest developments regarding the Inmarsat C service and the official rollout of the new SafetyLink platform, which came into effect on April 1, 2025.
This change introduces two activation options for Inmarsat C terminals, each with distinct operational and billing frameworks. Below is a summary of each –
Option 1. Activate via Inmarsat’s New SafetyLink Platform
The SafetyLink platform is Inmarsat’s new service environment, designed to simplify billing and minimize cost unpredictability:
- Billing is processed via Navarino’s Direct Billing, with each terminal locked to a single Land Earth Station Operator (LESO), reducing the risk of unexpected charges.
- As a result, with SafetyLink an Accounting Authority (AA) and a Point of Service Activation (PSA) are no longer required.
Option 2. Continue via the ESAS Platform (with GR14 as Accounting Authority) and Direct Billing
Alternatively, customers may choose to maintain their existing Inmarsat C activation on the legacy ESAS platform:
- In this setup, GR14 serves solely as the Accounting Authority, managing billing and payments for LESOs.
- Each LESO determines its own pricing, and these charges are not controlled or influenced by Navarino or GR14.
- Inmarsat charges an Indirect Management Fee of $15 per terminal/month for terminals not migrated to the SafetyLink platform. This is in addition to any LESO service charges billed through GR14.
Activation and Migration Process
- Existing terminals already under Direct Billing will remain unaffected, unless you choose to migrate them to the SafetyLink platform.
