Parnitha mountain is an area of outstanding natural beauty on the edge of the Greek capital, covered in greenery and with spectacular scenic views over the city of Athens. Unfortunately, in recent times forest fires have struck the area, devastating much of its vast forests and the surrounding areas.
Navarino is proud to have been able to help the replanting project in the area, by sponsoring the EDASA, the Greek Forestry Commission, to plant more than 100 new trees and the requisite soil to ensure they can grow healthily. The trees that were chosen by Navarino were Baby White Oaks, which have been a part of the Attican landscape since ancient times and which are more resistant to fire than other species such as pine trees.
Navarino’s CSR Manager, Tassos Barbas said ‘I am delighted that we are able to contribute to the re-growth of this beautiful area. To be able to plant these young trees and then to be able to see them grow over the coming years as we hike through the area gives me great pleasure and I am grateful to EDASA for this opportunity for Navarino to invest in the sustainability and ecology of our city.’
