“K” Line LNG Shipping (UK) Limited, based in London, manages a fleet of 10 vessels operating worldwide. Their vessels will be taking part in the Northen Lights project, which transports and delivers CO2 to special storage facilities in Norway in order to help the mitigation of industrial emissions that cannot be avoided, and to accelerate the decarbonisation of European industry.

In order to help prepare their ships for this project, “K” Line have recently chosen to enhance the connectivity capabilities of their fleet with Navarino. The company will be deploying 2 Starlinks per vessel,  for crew welfare usage and for business use. The two terminals will be managed and controlled using Navarino’s Infinity solution. Crew internet will be offered using Infinity’s data PINS per seafarer to manage consumption.

The Starlink deployment will be complemented by Iridium Certus installations, with Infinity handling the automatic failover to this backup service whenever it is needed, in order to ensure that vessel operations continue seamlessly wherever their voyages take them.

For an extra layer of connectivity, “K” Line also has implemented a 5G service across the Northern Lights fleet which Infinity can also prioritize when it is available.

Konstantinos Dimitriadis: “K” Line’s Navarino Account Manager said of the partnership ‘Behind every innovative initiative such as Northern Lights are dedicated people committed to making a difference. We’re very proud to provide the technology and support that will allow these teams to collaborate seamlessly’.

Dmitri Korlukov, Systems and Innovation Manager for “K” Line, added ‘Northern Lights is the world’s first open-source CO2 transport and storage infrastructure, that is on a mission to decarbonize industry, strengthen European competitiveness, introduce technological innovation and contribute to reaching climate goals.

Our vessels Northern Pioneer and her sister ship Northern Pathfinder are utilising the latest low-carbon technologies, including LNG fuel, wind-assisted rotor sail and an air lubrication system, while safely transporting CO₂. Innovation and technological development are actively encouraged and require robust and reliable communication systems, enhancing digitalisation of on-board systems. Thanks to the technologies and support provided by Navarino, “K” Line implemented several real-time monitoring systems, enhancing remote support and  process automation.’
