Founded in the 1970s by a group of mountaineers in Northen Greece, the Hellenic Rescue Team has grown into a critical rescue service comprised of mountaineers, doctors, trainers, and individuals with extensive expertise in various fields, that was officially accredited in 1994.
The organisation has provided support and relief to a large number of people in need across Greece, both on land and at sea, both during widespread natural disasters and also for people who get into trouble in the mountains or Greek waters.
Navarino is proud to have been able to provide this extremely important team with specialized Garmin satcom equipment to ensure that these lifesavers can maintain safe and uninterrupted communications, even in the most isolated regions of the country. The devices also allow rescue teams to track locations in real-time and communicate via satellite networks when traditional comms are unavailable, making this equipment an invaluable tool for their search and rescue operations.
Tassos Barbas, Navarino’s CSR Manager said ‘We are very grateful for the dedication and crucial work of the Hellenic Rescue Team, who are out there keeping people safe whenever needed all over Greece, and we are very happy to have been able to make this contribution to their efforts.’
