Navarino is delighted to have teamed up with Goldenport Ship Management and SpaceX to create a case study about how Goldenport is using the unlimited Starlink plan from Navarino to optimise business operations and enhance crew welfare across their fleet.

Read the full case study below.

SITUATION

Goldenport Shipmanagement Ltd. is a Greece-based shipowner and manager offering integrated ship management services. The company operates a fleet of approximately 31 vessels, primarily bulk carriers and containerships. To enable data-intensive applications, to support crew welfare and retention, and to meet modern efficiency requirements, Goldenport transitioned its fleet to a Starlink high-bandwidth data plan in collaboration with Navarino.

CHALLENGE

Before adopting Starlink, Goldenport’s maritime connectivity was supported by legacy technology. These systems came with restrictive data caps that limited operational flexibility and prevented the crew from making full use of modern digital tools and applications at sea.

The limited data allowance made it difficult to run high-frequency telemetry, real-time enterprise resource planning (ERP) ship-to-shore systems, IoT updates, Marine Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV), and video calls. Data consumption was constrained, forcing the company to manage bandwidth carefully and often de-prioritise non-essential applications.

This data limitation also negatively affected crew satisfaction. Seafarers were unable to maintain reliable connections with family and colleagues or stream video on demand, making it harder for Goldenport to attract and retain crew in a competitive market.

IMPACT

Goldenport enhanced its maritime connectivity by collaborating with Navarino, an authorised Starlink reseller and maritime technology provider, to deploy a fully managed, end-to-end Starlink solution. Navarino provided expertise in procurement, installation, and integration, enabling Goldenport to scale efficiently and achieve significant operational benefits.

Moving to a Starlink high-bandwidth data plan removed previous data restrictions and enabled Goldenport to significantly increase connectivity across its fleet. The ship management company now runs several high-throughput applications without the constant need to monitor data usage or deal with data restrictions.

Starlink data consumption has more than doubled, with vessels now regularly exceeding 2 TB per month, allowing the company to fully utilise advanced operational systems while delivering a far better experience for crew.

  • Operational Monitoring Transformation: The removal of data caps has enabled high-frequency telemetry, real-time ERP ship-to-shore connectivity, IoT updates, safety systems, and Marine Closed-Circuit Television, providing much greater visibility and control over vessel performance and maintenance.
  • Data Consumption and Capability Expansion: Vessels have seen data usage more than double to over 2 TB per month, unlocking full use of real-time video calls and other bandwidth-intensive applications that were previously not possible.
  • Crew Welfare and Retention Improvement: Starlink has delivered a major boost in crew satisfaction by enabling seafarers to stay connected to family and friends and stream video on demand, resulting in an improved ability to attract and retain high-quality crew across the fleet.

“Starlink has become a pivotal component of our connectivity strategy, significantly enhancing both operational efficiency and crew welfare. It enables real-time collaboration and access to digital tools that were previously impractical at sea. Integrated with our existing satellite infrastructure, it provides a resilient, future-ready communications platform across our fleet.” — Angelis Ioannis, ICT Manager
